Well if you want some foreign point of view, here oil is sold in litters (not in gallon) 1 litter =~ 0.2 gallons. And we pay around 1.40 CHF/litter (1.16 USD)(a little bit less in fact depends of the times). Anyway comparatevely it makes the gallon at ~5.8 USD if you bought it here...
