Is the world comming to an end? - BIRD33 - 01-12-2005

cracker Wrote:There are many signs in the bible that point to an end of mans time here on earth. Many of them are natural disasters that occur more frequently. I don't think the world will end say in the next 10 years, I do however believe that it will be ending in the next 50 to 100 years. Of course this is a subjective question and many scientists will not say that they think the world is ending and many hethans will believe there is no such thing as god.

This is fine because we are all entitled to free will. Therefore, I am not right in your eyes and you are not right in my eyes.

Think your important much?-"Many scientist wont say they think the world is ending"- How about no sane scientist.- "Many of them are natural disasters that occur more frequently"-.How do you know that natural disaters are occuring more frequently?Ever hear of weather patterns, ice ages etc..?
Have fun using that crutch to get you through your miserable existence.

Natural disasters and such seem to be so much more active and large now because technology has made the world a smaller place. If that tsunami had happened 30 years ago, it would have only been news here for a few days and there would have likely been no pictures or video of anything. Now, we are still getting raw video footage of it two weeks later.

Now that everyone has a video phone or video camera, cell phones, etc... and we have 24 hour news networks, these things seem to be more common and more frequent.

But, even random events, such as these things, do occur in clumps from time to time. These are not "signs", these are just things that happen.

IMHO.

Quote:first earthquakes & tsunamies, then biblical type rain in Cali, volcanos in mexico, mudslides.....

Granted, the weather around the world is getting more and more fucked up but this is because of what we are doing to the environment.

And it has absolutely nothing at all to do with "god" or any impeding armageddon, religious people have been pulling that shit since time began and I still don't see four scary men riding around and killing people.

Not only that, but any and all gods you claim exist are actually nothing but freaks of your own imagination.

You might want to beleive but I prefer knowing.

What proof do you have of this? What are we doing wrong that is causing under water earth quakes?

Since you've been here all you've proven to me is how full of shit you really are...

Alright, you got me, we aren't doing anything that has any impact on the seismic activity of the earth, it just happens by itself and there's squat we can do to prevent it, why?

Because within this planet there is a core of molten metal, metal that is molten is liquified and anything lying on top tends to float around.

Ever looked at some ice floats in a stream? The pieces of ice move around, bumps into each other and slide away, the exact same thing happens with the tectonic plates of this planet we're living on.

Now, when anything slides around there is friction, more so if the things sliding around are fucking massive pieces of our earth, and when two tectonic plates bump into another, or one slides underneath another (like in the indian ocean where the burmese plate and the indian plate met) there is a shitload of vibrations, you've now got an earthquake.

Only thing is, when an earthquake happens out at sea the tectonic plates set a massive amount of water in motion, the larger the quake, the more water.

Now water moves very quickly and when it hits land is continues on uphill for a bit.

That is what happened in the indian ocean, not some kind of divine act by a sadistic diety.

Look bung whipe, the SooNamie story has been forced down my throat the way Cameltoe takes Banana's 9" strap on for a good 3 weeks now, you don't have to explain it to me again. What the fuck are you trying to argue? That these things that are happening are not acts of Gawd? I agree with you. I have no explanation as to why the weather is all fucked up, nor do I give two shits. Please shut the fuck up now and read more....Thanks

Tectonic plates don't "bump" into one another and cause vibrations. They are traveling much too slow. As they press against one another, they build up kinetic energy. Once the built up energy overpowers the friction that is holding them in place, they move very suddenly. Hence the vibrations.

Other than that, you were pretty much on the mark. Especially the part about the water going uphill for a bit.

Um, I wasn't trying to explain scientifically how a tsunami works, I was making an effort to show that gawd don't got nothing to do with tsunamis, or any other natural diaster for that matter.

You have lost your train of thought.

You said that the weather was fucked up around the world because of what we have done to the environment.

Clay called bullshit on that remark.

Then you explained how a tsunami works. Go back and explain how man's impact on the environmnent causes these natural disasters.

1. plates are not floating "islands" they overlap each other.
2. water does not move in the open ocean per say. the energy from the quake is transfered thru the water untill it get closer to land where it's final excape is to take water with it onto land.
